A Global Study Reveals COVID19 Infection Might Cause Stroke In Healthy And Young People

Covid-19-World

A group of scientists from Israel has done a research project that has found that there is a hidden trend of COVID19 that is resulting in strokes in people, who are usually not at risk. Apart from Israel, around 31 countries have been involved in this study. The study has found that one out of four COVID stroke patients is below 55 years of age. The same portion of people has not shown any evident risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and smoking, said the experts. Experts have said that the findings of the large-scale study have shown that the percentage of young COVID19 patients dealing with stroke is unusually high. They have said that usually, 10 to 15 percent of patients who are dealing with stroke are in the age group of 18 to 50 years, and the percentage appears to be the same when the age range is increased to 18 to 55 years.

The findings of the study have noted that a trend of COVID19 prompting stroke in people who are usually not at risk of having a stroke. One of the authors of the study, Prof. Ronen Leker from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem has said that the study will help medical professionals to find a link between COVID19 and stroke in young patients. Experts have said that young patients with COVID19 infection might be at a higher risk of stroke due to blockages in larger blood vessels. The findings of the study have been released in the journal called Stroke.

Some experts who have not been involved in the study have said that the findings of the new study are extremely disturbing. Prof. Cyrille Cohen from Bar Ilan University has said that the findings of the study show COVID19 as a potential catalyst of stroke in young people. Health experts have said that the COVID19 infection is not simple flu or viral disease. Young people who are not at higher risk of the virus appear to be susceptible to stroke and other instant and long-lasting effects of the virus, at a time when people are calculating the benefits and risks of vaccination, said the experts.

Many medical professionals have been worrying about the link between COVID19 and stroke for a long time, now the team of experts has come up with a detailed study on the same. The authors of the study have said that in many cases of COVID19, stroke has been reported as a result of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus infection. However, there are fewer data about the details of such patients in a multinational large-scale study.

Scientists have surveyed more than half of the 136 medical centers in 32 countries during the study. All these surveyed medical centers have treated at least one patient with both health issues COVID19 and stroke. They have promptly found that COVID19 and stroke are standard bedfellows. One of the most surprising facts of the study is that COVID19 seems to be a hidden trigger for strokes. Around 38 percent of 432 patients who have been observed in the study have been unaware of having a stroke and being COVID19 positive. Most of them have been found to be positive for COVID19 after doctors have tested them for coronavirus.

Experts have said that doctors should routinely test young stroke patients for COVID19 to prevent the spread of the virus in regular wards. They have said that all young stroke patients should consider testing themselves for COVID19, especially those people who do not have any other pre-existing conditions for stroke. Prof. Ronen Leker has said that the findings of the study will help understand the link between COVID19 infection and stroke. The outcomes of the study will as well offer direct curative benefits to patients.
