Calling All Curious Minds: Don’t Miss Out On The Biggest Science Event Of The Year!

February 12, 2025 by Deborah Bloomfield

Pittcon is where science meets innovation. This fantastic annual event brings together researchers, innovators, and industry leaders from around the world, and, for the first time, it will be held in Boston, USA, from March 1-5 this year.

With a legacy spanning over 75 years, Pittcon first took place in Pittsburgh, organized by the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP) and the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh (SSP). As it grew, the event expanded to different locations in the US. Now, it’s an unmissable event for anyone in the scientific field.

Why is Pittcon coming to Boston?

Pittcon will be held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) in the Seaport District. Boston is the world’s largest biotech hub, home to nearly 1,000 biotech companies and around 45 colleges and universities. The location is incredibly convenient, with Logan Airport being just 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) away from the BCEC.

Along with attending Pittcon, there are plenty of things that people can do while in town. The area itself has many fantastic restaurants, trendy hotels, and state-of-the-art spaces for tech companies and biotech firms, all within walking distance.

What learning opportunities can you expect?

Pittcon is unique in that it offers both a conference and an exposition. This means there are countless learning opportunities through hundreds of lectures, short courses, and workshops. These are themed around the different tracks, including:

  • Bioanalytical & Life Science
  • Cannabis & Psychedelics
  • Environmental & Energy
  • Instrumentation & Nanoscience
  • Pharmaceutical & Biologics
  • Professional Development

Then, once your brain is packed with new knowledge, you can join the bustling exposition floor, where aisles are filled with vendors from various companies. This gives attendees ample opportunity to ask questions directly or discuss any problems that they may be having in the laboratory.

Hands-on experiences & expo floor

This isn’t your typical science event. The expo floor is packed with interactive, hands-on activities, such as Pittcon Pavilion, Pittcon Parks, Lab Gauntlet, LEGO gravity racing, Pittcon Central, Pittcon Pups, and the Pittcon Party.

The Pittcon Pavilion features daily periodic lunch breaks and professional development seminars. Expect science communication advice, STEM character creation insights, an interactive experience exploring the science of cannabis aromas, tips on unlocking LinkedIn’s full potential, and engaging talks from International Associates.

Pittcon Parks offers immersive experiences. Head to the DemoZone for captivating presentations showcasing new and updated products or visit the Learning Labs to pick up real-world laboratory tips and techniques.

For a fun challenge, there is the Lab Gauntlet. This is a series of entertaining tasks designed to test laboratory skills for prizes. If that has not satisfied your competitive side, LEGO Gravity Racing lets you build your own LEGO car and race against other attendees.

At the heart of the action is Pittcon Central. It will be the best place to rest, charge devices, grab some Pittcon merchandise, visit the headshot lounge, contribute to a LEGO mosaic build, or get details about Pittcon 2026.

A brand-new addition this year is the Pittcon Pups – meet adorable local dogs of all ages looking for their fur-ever home. Whether you’re just there for some puppy snuggles or hoping to meet your new best friend, it will be a heartwarming highlight.

And don’t miss the Pittcon Party! This 76th-anniversary celebration at the Boston Museum of Science includes delicious food, hands-on experiences, stunning Planetarium shows, immersive 4-D films, and more.

Career opportunities

For people looking to change their career and reshape their lives, Pittcon offers complimentary employment services, like the career matchmaker, which matches people looking for jobs with employers who are hiring. There will also be plenty of experts on hand to review résumés. At the LinkedIn Bar, anyone can get advice on optimizing their profile – a must for anyone looking for new job opportunities.

For those with an entrepreneurial spirit, there’s the brand-new Pitch Pitt. This will be a space where people can get feedback on their personal elevator pitches or advice on their startup or entrepreneurial pitches.

Pittcon also offers opportunities to present research through posters, lectures, or symposiums, which are essential skills for scientists.

Giving back

Attending Pittcon could help you and your career and will also help the advancement of science. An incredible 90 percent of Pittcon’s net profit is dedicated to supporting primary and secondary education, continuing education initiatives, scholarships, grants, laboratory enhancements, and outreach activities.

Don’t miss out on attending Pittcon, it could change your life and the lives around you.
