Pittcon: The Ultimate Value-Packed Lab And Science Tradeshow

November 16, 2024 by Deborah Bloomfield

What will you take away? When choosing the best scientific event to attend each year, people shouldn’t just look at the list of exhibitors and featured topics, but at the added value a person can gain once the show is over. Not simply what the convention provides, but what the tradeshow promises you will take away from your experience.

Next year, from March 1-5, 2025, Pittcon – the premier laboratory conference and exposition on the planet – travels to Boston for the first time in its illustrious history. In the article “Introducing The Pittcon Promise: The Science Tradeshow Leading Your Life-Long Learning”, Pittcon unveiled four promises that benefit attendees and exhibitors alike.

Summed up, Pittcon promises:

  1. To be your life-long learning partner
  2. To make your experience with them a valuable one
  3. To be “Always On” for you and your career
  4. To fund the next generation of scientists while fulfilling your own dreams

Today, we’ll talk about Pittcon’s second promise: To make your experience with them a valuable one.

Pittcon is the place – the place to make life-long friends and valuable connections

For over 75 years, Pittcon has always offered plenty of ways to meet new people and the chance to form strong bonds with collaborators. For starters, there is an inviting Welcome Reception – an easy-going, light-hearted opportunity to make connections and network with the other Pittcon attendees.

Next year, Pittcon celebrates its 76th anniversary. To commemorate the event, the Pittcon Party at Boston’s Museum of Science is aptly named, The Spirit of Our 76th! What better way to connect and cultivate friendships for life? Tickets sell out fast, so get yours when you register.

Another Pittcon highlight is the Wallace H. Coulter guest lecture. Speaking on March 2, 2025, will be Dr Cato T. Laurencin, an award-winning, highly respected scientist who has vast experience as both a pioneer in regenerative engineering and a highly successful entrepreneur.

If you want to meet fellow scientists interested in your niche area, there are six track-specific meetups throughout the event. They include Bioanalytic & Life Science, Cannabis & Psychedelics, Environment & Energy, Instrumentation & Nanoscience, Pharmaceutical & Biologics, and Professional Development.

Or take a coffee break with colleagues; many unexpected career U-turns have happened over a “cup of Joe”.

Value at every turn

Pittcon is a kaleidoscope of exciting and entertaining activities. At the center of it all is Pittcon Central – a hub of activity and information. In 2024, the hub provided attendees with a chance to take selfies or professional headshots, later used on social media platforms like LinkedIn.

In addition to offering a chance to expand your professional networks, Pittcon is a scientific troubleshooting hotspot. There are countless learning opportunities, where visitors can hear about the latest ground-breaking research from experts and lecturers, ask technical questions about challenges they may be facing in their own labs, or wander through an informative bay of poster sessions.

There are hundreds of immersive booths, which offer a chance to see displays and hands-on demonstrations unique to Pittcon.

DemoZone or Learning Labs are also held, where exhibitors can do live demonstrations of their products and services, or share knowledge and tips. Then there’s the annual Lab Gauntlet, a true Pittcon fan favorite. The Gauntlet is designed to put your laboratory skills to the test. Participants compete with one another by performing multiple tasks at once. Anyone who completes the “gauntlet” receives a free T-shirt to commemorate their accomplishment.

There are also Lunch & Learn events at the Pittcon Pavilion, where attendees enjoy snacks while they listen to some light-hearted scientific topics. In February, at Pittcon 2024 in San Diego, attendees were able to witness and partake in molecular gastronomy, develop an understanding of how effective science communication works, and learn about the science behind beer.

“It’s a little overwhelming at first, but you can always find a lot of different things to do, and network with industry professionals. There’s a nice practical focus, but, also, being able to present research is a huge privilege. So, I think Pittcon is a wonderful, diverse atmosphere where you can kind of take a lot away from it while also presenting valuable research and learning a lot of valuable things,” J. Dylan Denison, a graduate student from NC State University, who attended Pittcon in 2023, told IFLScience.

2025 brings new experiences, and added value, to Pittcon

Always innovating, Pittcon offers new and exciting attendee activities each year. In 2025, Pittcon is introducing the “Pitch Pitt” – a helpful area where people can get immediate feedback on their research proposals.

A LinkedIn Bar will also open, helping attendees optimize their LinkedIn profiles. Participants can go on to become exciting hiring prospects or, potentially, LinkedIn influencers.

If that isn’t enough, Pittcon 2025 will also offer plenty of employment opportunities. There will be a chance to change your career by landing that perfect new job. Pittcon has a premier on-site career exchange and is a service that can match candidates and employers based on position requirements and qualifications. This free service has changed many people’s lives over the years.

One of the most exciting new experiences is going to be the first-ever Pittcon Pups activity area. The dogs will come from a Boston-area animal shelter. People can take a break to pet a pup or even have the chance to adopt a new, furry family member.

So, don’t miss out on the amazing amount of value that attending Pittcon 2025 will bring you, both professionally and on a personal level. Pittcon promises to be the laboratory event of the year. What will you take away in 2025?
