Twitter Testing Prompts Feature To Warn Users About Potentially Intense Conversation

Twitter often sees users getting engaged in a heated debate. To prevent users from jumping into such a conversation, the company is planning to introduce a new mechanism. It will warn users about a potential intense conversation. Twitter said that the feature is currently under trial. It will curb heated conversation that leads to unproductive. Twitter said that it wants the platform to be treated for competitive conversation. But the microblogging platform draws flak for unknowingly becoming a platform for intense and heated talks. The product team is testing the safety trial of the new feature. Twitter will alert users as soon as they reply to a potential intense conversation.

The new feature is aimed at promoting dialogues that are based on facts. The feature is seen as Twitter’s latest attempt to fight against online abuse, harassment, and discrimination. Twitter said that it will also alert users if it recognizes that tweets shares by them might be offensive in nature. It will also show a prompt if users retweet an article, news, or blog without reading. This will help in curbing the spread of misinformation on the platform. The new prompts will aim at preventing tweets with incomplete or wrong information from being shared. The prompts will be rolled out for both iOS and Android users. Besides, the company has plans to add the feature to its desktop website as well.

Twitter said that it always supports healthy conversation. But the growing abuse and harassment on the platform have become a serious cause of concern that needs an early redressal. The American social networking service has been working on new ways to detoxify the platform. Twitter said that it encourages the users to be factual and also open to diverse views. Twitter said that it may evaluate the topic of conversation and the connection between the author of the tweet and those replying. It will send discourage users from tweeting content that could hurt others’ sentiments.
