Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Speaks On ‘Gruelling’ Working Conditions Of Employee

April 26, 2021 by Jennifer Preston Leave a Comment

Amazon chief executive officer Jeff Bezos has finally opened up about the ‘grueling’ working condition of the employees. Bezos in a letter to shareholders said that the company needs to do a ‘better job’ for employees. He said this in the letter, which is the last in the capacity of a top executive of the company. The letter comes after various media reports raise the untenable conditions in which Amazon workers perform their duties. The letter mentions a strategy that talks about how robotic schemes will develop algorithm-based new staffing schedules. However, the strategy looks odd as the workers of the company itself have accused of being treated like robots.

Bezos also tried to reject the reports that the e-commerce giant doesn’t care for its employees. “That is not at all correct. The reports suggest our employees are treated like robots and they are often accused of being desperate souls,” Bezos wrote in the letter. He emphasized that the company will address the issue by developing a new staffing schedule. “With the use of the algorithm, employees will be rotated among jobs with different muscle-tendon. This will help employees protect themselves against MSD risks.” Bezos said that the technology will be rolled within this year.

Apart from this, Bezos for the first time publicly addressed the issues issue of a failed union drive at the Alabama plant. He said that the company needs to work in a better way to make things more comfortable for employees. The remarks came weeks after Amazon issued a rare public apology. The apology was issued after a top executive of the company publicly claimed that no worker had to pee in water bottles to meet the work demands. This has been a raging issue and several workers of the company had openly discussed the issue. Many workers have shared their first experience of working at the company. Moreover, the company is also facing a lawsuit where a worker accused the company of not giving proper lunch breaks.
