Drinking A Cup Of Coffee Daily Can Reduce Risk Of Covid-19 Infection By 10 Percent

July 23, 2021 by Jennifer Preston Leave a Comment

Regular consumption of coffee could help in fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic. A new study has said that coffee has properties that reduce the level of inflammation in the body. Coffee is also a good source of antioxidants. The study was conducted by Northwestern University. They said that the anti-inflammatory property of coffee can keep Covid infection away. The study noted that drinking one or more cups of coffee daily reduced the risk of infection. It said that the risk is decreased by about 10 percent. Researchers found that people drinking less than a cup of coffee daily are less protected than those taking the beverage more than a cup.

Researchers said that coffee also lowers the risk of pneumonia. Elderly people who take coffee daily are better protected against pneumonia. They called for further analysis of coffee’s immunoprotective merit against Covid-19. Researchers also said that eating more vegetables and less processed meats has the potential to cut the risk of infection. Vegetables are also considered a good source of antioxidants that significantly improve immune response. The study involved an analysis of records of 40,000 adults. Researchers looked at the link between their diet and Covid-19 infection. The diet included drinking coffee daily. The diet also had tea, vegetables, fruit, and processed meat. They said that consuming 0.67 servings per day of vegetables lowered the risk of infection.

People who consumed processed meat were more likely to be infected. Even a little quantity of 0.43 servings daily increased the risk. The study said that eating red meat showed no risk. The study supports the theory that nutritional factors influence the immune response to Covid-19. Researchers said that a change in nutritional behaviors can help in fighting the pandemic and reduce the recovery time. This could act as an additional tool to check the spread of the virus. Although vaccines have curtailed the disease, doctors across the world have been recommending shifting to healthy dietary behaviors since the outbreak.
