Experts Say 70 Percent People Above 65 Years Are Fully Vaccinated In The US

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that nearly 70 percent of senior citizens who are above 65 years have been immunized with two full doses of the COVID19 vaccine. The agency has said that on average around 2.1 million people are turning up at vaccination site per day over the past week that is slightly less than a peak of 3.4 million in mid-April. Experts have said that the rate of new infection as well has reduced further in the country. At present, the US has been seeing nearly 46600 new cases over the past week. This data has been taken from the seven-day average released by the John Hopkins University. This is the lowest seven-day average in the US since fall. The CDC has said that data show around 45 percent of people in the US have taken at least the first doses of vaccines. Nearly one-third of adult populations have been immunized with two doses of vaccine.

The US government has opened vaccination for senior citizens who are in one of the most vulnerable groups. As per the experts, around 83 percent of elderly people are vaccinated with the first dose of the vaccine in the US. President Joe Biden has pledged to vaccinate at least 70 percent of the adult population with at least one dose of a COVID19 vaccine by the first week of July. Around 57 percent of adult people have been immunized with the one dose of a COVID19 shot in the US so far. The rate of vaccination in the US has been reducing for a couple of weeks. It has come down to only 37 percent from a peak a few weeks ago. Many people have been missing their second shots in the US off lately. It has become a huge matter of concern for many health officials. Health experts have said that missing a second dose of the vaccine might lead to further infections in the future. They have said that getting only one dose of the vaccine will not offer full protection to people. The data from John Hopkins University have shown that the rate of seven-day average new cases has fallen by 11 percent in the past week in the US. Daily new cases have reduced by at least 5 percent in the past week in more than half of the states in the US.

The federal health agency has warned that the number of infections might rise again in the future due to a highly infectious variant of the virus known as B.1.1.7. Experts from the CDC have said that cases of COVID19 might shoot up in May and will drop in the month of July. Federal health officials have said that a higher rate of vaccine coverage and strict compliance with COVID19 precautionary measures are required to reduce the caseload and surges in the rate of hospitalization and deaths due to the disease in the forthcoming months. Around 580000 people have lost their lives due to the COVID19 pandemic in the US so far. According to the data from John Hopkins University, the seven-day average of deaths linked to COVID19 in the US is 686 at present.
