Yahoo Mobile Shutting Down One Year After Launch, To Allow Members Transfer Numbers To Another Carrier

June 29, 2021 by Jennifer Preston Leave a Comment

Yahoo Mobile is shutting down. The company has announced that services will be ceased from August 13 this year. Yahoo Mobile is a mobile phone service by Yahoo. It used Verizon’s network. The company has issued an official statement, informing users about the decision to shut down. The statement is posted on the company’s website. Yahoo Mobile is shutting down its services one year after the launch. It was launched in March 2020. Yahoo said that customers who want to continue using the service can switch to Visible. It is another similar service by Verizon. Verizon is an American telecommunications company. It acquired Yahoo in 2016. The deal was signed for USD 4.83 billion.

Verizon in March last year launched Yahoo Mobile. It offered one plan. It charged USD 40 every month. The company provided the unlimited talk and text facilities. I also gave 4G LTE data. Reports said that Yahoo Mobile brought nothing new for the customers. It was just a rebranded version of Visible. Visible is spinoff phone services by the New York-based company. Verizon said that Yahoo Mobile customers will be able to use the services for the current billing cycle. They can renew services for one more month. However, the services will completely be shut down after August 31. Yahoo Mobile on its support page cited sales as the reason behind the company’s decision.

Verizon noted that Yahoo Mobile saw limited launch devices since its launch. This includes the budget Blade A3 Prime and Blade A3Y by ZTE. Verizon earlier in 2021 sold all the brands under Verizon Media. This also included Yahoo. Verizon sold the brands to Apollo Global Management. It is a global investment management firm. It was founded in 1990 and based in New York. Yahoo Mobile’s poor mobile and marketing are among other reasons that are being attributed to its shutting down just after a year of the launch. The company said that it will allow Yahoo Mobile members to request for their numbers to be transferred to another carrier. They can place requests visiting the company’s official website or app.
