New Study Says Drinking Coffee And Green Tea Reduces The Risk Of Death Due To Heart Attack

February 8, 2021 by Jennifer Preston Leave a Comment

A study has found more evidence, which shows that drinking coffee can be beneficial for health. The research has revealed that drinking coffee in small amounts regularly reduces the risk of death in heart attack and stroke survivors. It is beneficial for healthy adults as well, said the experts. The study has reported that daily intake of green tea as well lowers the risk of death in people who have suffered a stroke in the past. The findings of the study have been released in a journal of the American Heart Association called Stroke. Experts from the University of Tsukuba, Osaka University, and Hokkaido University in Japan have looked at the data of more than 46000 Japanese adults. They have tracked their green tea and coffee drinking habits, and health outcomes. As per the experts, people who have been drinking at least 1 cup of coffee in a week have been at a 14 percent lower risk of death due to any cause. Drinking 1 cup of coffee a week has reduced the risk of early death among heart attack survivors by 22 percent. There has been one group, which has not shown any benefits from drinking coffee. People from this group have been identified with a history of stroke. Experts have said that people from this group have shown health benefits from drinking lots of green tea. They have claimed that drinking at least seven cups of green tea will reduce the risk of early death in stroke survivors by 62 percent. For people who have not been found to have any history of stroke, green tea has not made any difference in their health outcomes.

Experts have said that they are unclear about the beneficial factor of coffee and green tea. They have noted that the findings of the study are observational; therefore, they do not show that drinking those beverages can directly improve health outcomes. Scientists have said that a key reason is that both coffee and green tea are consumed without milk and sugar in Japan, which might be a reason for maximum health benefits. The co-author of the study, Dr. Hiroyasu Isu has said that these beverages should be prepared with a needless amount of added sugar to get the utmost health benefits. Past studies as well have noted that all types of coffee and tea are highly rich in phytonutrients, which are plant-based compounds that are very beneficial for good health. A recent study has revealed that tea can help reduce blood pressure, as it is high in a specific form of micronutrients called flavanol. Flavanol is found in apples and berries as well. Coffee as well is highly rich in healthy nutrients. It has high levels of antioxidants, which can reduce inflammation and the risk of heart ailments.

Experts have said that coffee and tea contain caffeine as well, which can lead to health benefits such as more energy and a healthy metabolism. However, caffeine can result in some side effects as well such as nausea or jitter when given in high doses. Tea contains quite a low amount of caffeine, which is not likely to cause any health issues. An extensive study has revealed that it is safe to drink up to five cups of coffee in a day for improved health outcomes. The participants of the study have been enrolled in the Japan Collaborative Cohort Study for Evaluation of Cancer Risk (JACC study). This large-scale study has been conducted in 45 communities in Japan. The participants of the study have been asked to answer some of the questions about their lifestyle, medical history, demographics, and diet via questionnaires.
